Traveling To Maui? Four Things You Must Do

By Ella Hemmings

If you love Hawaii, you are not alone. Nearly eight million travelers visit this South Pacific archipelago each year, and roughly 2.5 million of them opt to stay on Maui. With its scenic beaches and a myriad of wonderful activities, it is not hard to understand why. If you are planning a Maui vacation, here are some must-do activities to consider.

Couples often head to Maui in search of some much-needed romance and what could be more romantic than renewing your vows or eloping right on the beach? The Maui wedding experts at Love Maui Weddings can help you with all the details of an elopement or vow renewal. They even offer several packages ideally suited to either of these intimate ceremonies, as well as helping couples plan larger ceremonies and receptions.

For instance, if you wish to renew your vows, consider the "Love, Always" Maui wedding package. This includes a ceremony on the beach led by a local minister, fresh leis, a keepsake bottle of sand from your special beach and a printed copy of your vows. If you wish to elope, consider the "Simply in Love" option which has many of the amenities of the "Love, Always" option but also includes assistance with procuring a wedding license. You can also add on extras such as a photographer or perhaps a musician.

Of course, there's plenty more to do in Maui after you exchange vows. If you are up for a long and winding road, rent a convertible and hit the road to Hana. This journey is just 52 miles, but it truly takes at least eight hours to really make the most of the drive. You can stop at beaches or hike to a spectacular waterfall or simply drive and see some of the world's best scenery. Be sure to leave early and bring along food, as you can't really buy it along the way.

Maui is unique for many reasons, not the least of which is that it is the site of the world's largest dormant volcano - Haleakala. One amazing trek would be to drive up to the visitors' center before sunrise, climb to the peak of Haleakala and watch the sun rise over the island. Then you explore the volcano and spend the day trekking through Haleakala National Park.

It's also fun to explore Maui from the sea. There are many boat tours that can take you around the coastline to see everything from a slightly different perspective. You also could consider taking a whale watching trip, as this is one of the best places on earth to see whales.
