Mistakes You Should Not Make To First Timers Of A Christian Church

By Lila Bryant

Faith is interpreted differently across nations, races and demographics. People have varying religious backgrounds and to show respect means to honor their choices and guide them only when necessary. Those who attend a Christian Church in Chester Ca for the first time know how overwhelming and anxiety inducing it can be. Long time followers and preachers should act accordingly and not commit these discouraging mistakes.

Never turn away people especially when it is their first time. Be accommodating and tell them of different alternatives to take for the meantime. Be realistic, but also have the heart to go out of your way. These people want the assurance that they are welcome, so try to give them at least that.

Avoid bad mouthing anyone from the church especially to a first timer. If you always find yourself having to explain someones behavior or actions, then maybe you are the only one brewing up an issue. If you have a problem with someone, settle it with the parties involved in a civil manner. It is the Christian thing to do.

During church related gatherings, you cannot just question why someone is present. It may sound cheeky when said this way, but still it imposes disparity among individuals. Let people be and let them come if they want to. If there is doubt on their sincerity, it is best to let it unfold given the right avenue to air out grievances.

First timers who want to serve should also have the freedom to do so, granted that they be given the opportunity. You cannot turn away someone just because he or she is not yet a fully fledged member. It is natural for people to desire to help, which is why having a criterion for this is another form of being selective.

First timers are often wary and clueless, which means they have to be handled gently and with care. Assign warm and welcoming people to the registration process. Remember, this is not a job recruitment method, so the grilling is uncalled for. Make every step fun and bearable, go take it easy and embrace the presence of newbie.

People do not like waiting especially when they get the impression that they are always welcome, anytime they decide to stay. So when you are assigning people to small groups, never close your doors. Welcome the opportunity to mentor another kindred spirit. Find a way to make things work so no one will be looking elsewhere.

The biggest mistake that you could commit is telling someone that he or she is wrong for thinking through a certain way. Yes, people come from different backgrounds and have adopted certain beliefs, but it does not automatically mean that they are wrong. Proper discourse will clear the air and hopefully, everyone will learn the value of respect.

These are statements that are not necessary especially since it questions the reputation of the church as a whole. While ones actions may not reflect the views of everyone, it still creates imminent disparity and distrust. So if you want to invite people to your congregation, make sure that the rest are sincere with their intentions. Unity can only be fulfilled with openness and the acceptance of likeness and differences.
