Your Eligibility For Immigration To Canada

By Tanisha Berg

Most individuals who move to Canada seek to become full-fledged citizens. There are four categories of people that are eligible for Immigration to Canada. There is a family class, which are people who have closely related family already living in this North American country; economic immigrants, who are part of the job force; refugees, who are people who seek to escape persecution from their original countries; and others who are accepted for humanitarian or compassionate reasons.

Canada's Citizenship and Immigration department separates economic immigrants in to seven sub-categories. High-profile applicants who are part of some business or company made up 19.8 percent of all Canada's immigration in 2005. There is now also a VIP Business Immigration Program that allows people who have extensive business or management experience to achieve immigrant status faster than others.

The province of Quebec has installed the Immigrant Investor Program. With this, immigrant applicants in the family class can be sponsored by family members who are either citizens or permanent residents. This program also provides protection and shelter for refugees. Canadian nationality law allows that anyone who was physically living in the country for 3 out of 5 years, while being a permanent resident for 2, can apply for citizenship in Canada.

Immigrant groups often find themselves facing penalties when moving to Canada. Most people are unsure of what to do or even where to start once they decide they want to permanently move to this North American country. Don't be surprised by costly fines, and make sure to have a job in place for you so you can support yourself.

There are a lot of guidelines and rules that apply to the different classes of people who can immigrate to Canada. Skilled workers are one of these categories. These skilled immigrants must hold a job for a year in the country before they can apply for citizenship.

Your emigration status depends on a 100 point system, with 67 points being the minimum acceptance level. Your points for up if you have a high education level, so you can achieve even more points if you have more education than normal. Knowing how to speak and write English and French can also give you more points. If you want admittance as a skilled worker, you need to make sure that your occupation is listed and qualifies under the National Occupational Classification list.

Eligibility points also require you to have a year of full-time work or part-time experience. You should get a letter from your employer if you've gotten a full-time job in the country to make your emigration process easier, and make sure to provide documents of all claims. Additionally, you'll need to pay your application and registration fees, along with filling out any required forms.

If you aren't sure of the application process, hire an immigration lawyer to help you understand all the laws. You'll need to get a physical first as well so you can pass the health screening. In order to immigrate into Canada, you need a healthy body without any criminal record.
