Beyond The Beach: Maui's Top Four Adventures

By Ella Hemmings

If you soon will be heading to Maui, you probably cannot wait to soak up some rays and enjoy a few relaxing days in the warm island waters. While that is a great way to spend your time in Maui, there are a few other adventures that shouldn't be ignored.

1. Catch The Sunrise At The Top Of Haleakala

Everyone loves to watch the sun set in Maui, and it's a daily event you probably will enjoy throughout your trip. However, the sunrise in Maui can be just as inspiring, particularly if you watch it from Haleakala, Maui's highest point. To reach Haleakala, you must drive to Haleakala National Park, which is about 50 miles from Lahaina, to give you some perspective. So you'll need to leave several hours prior to the sunrise, but if you time it right, you will see both a sky full of stars and a beautiful sunrise. After the sunrise, stay for a while and explore the world's largest dormant volcano, the Haleakala Crater.

2. Take A Rugged Journey To Hana

When it comes to visiting the tiny hamlet of Hana, the trip is more about the journey than the destination. This little seaside town has fewer than 1,300 residents and is accessible only by State Highway 360, otherwise known as the Hana Highway. While it's only about 45 miles from the town of Paia (where one typically begins the journey) to Hana, this is a trip that easily can take 10 or more hours. The road is windy and narrow with many one-lane bridges. The scenery is spectacular and you can stop at various places to enjoy the view, hike to a waterfall or swim in the ocean. If you want to really enjoy the journey, you can book a hotel stay in Hana and then drive to and from the town at your leisure.

3. Enjoy Maui From The Sea

After you have enjoyed the view from the beach, from Haleakala and along the coast on your way to Hana, it's time to change your perspective. So hop on a boat or book a kayaking tour and take to the sea. You are sure to see whales and other wildlife, as well as enjoying vistas of Maui from the sea.

4. Get Married

If you were planning on taking the plunge and getting married anyway, there are few better places on earth to tie the knot than Maui. Destination weddings often seem more like a dream than a feasible reality, but these nuptials actually can cost less than a wedding at home and certainly are less trouble and hassle. After all, at home you have to handle hundreds of details yourself while with a destination wedding, you will hire a Maui wedding coordinator to handle the details.

At Love Maui Weddings, this team of Maui wedding planners has been helping couples plan weddings of all sizes, as well as elopements and vow renewals for more than 25 years. They can help you plan a beachfront ceremony, a ceremony at a botanical garden, at an oceanfront resort or anywhere your heart desires. Whether the ceremony includes a large party or just the two of you, they also have some amazing wedding packages that will make your day truly spectacular.
