Haiti Mission Disaster Management Bringing Back Hope Inhabitants

By Amanda Bean

The state stands in the Caribbean region, sharing the island of Hispaniola with the Republic of Santo Domingo. Being the poorest country in the Western region with over eighty percent of its population living below the poverty level, this state seems to have lost its place in the global hemisphere. The Haiti mission plan by international representative and United Nation sought to bring the country back to its feet.

The main report on the disaster that hit this country few years back states that it was the worst that has ever happened in the history of humankind. Many people did not just lose their lives and property of value wasted, but also renovating the country would prove quite difficult. The killing, however, did not affect the whole country, instead, it took place within Port-au-Prince, leaving regions 100KM safe.

The problems of this country actually became a concern of so many international bodies including the United Nation, the government of the United States of America, the European Commission. In actual sense, the incident that occurred left so many people without hope and homes as well. The mission team to this state, therefore, was going to focus on helping people meet their material and social needs.

The team was helpful in a great way, they helped people by sharing food with them as well as enough water to drink on a regular basis. They provided temporary shelter for protection during the renovation process. Again, the team was helpful because it emphasized on the need for proper hygiene among the inhabitants of Haiti.

The UNEP initiated a program in this country that would see the people becoming economically stable. Through the HRI, the vulnerability of disasters and poverty in the country would reduce. The plan seeks to restore the ecosystem of the country and improve the lives of the people through effective management of natural resources.

When the disaster took place, it left a lot of debris that needed proper management. All the debris required proper collection, sorting, appropriate treatment type and effective disposals. This act alone made the management team an ideal part in disaster control. There are many non-governmental organization that help by taking part in the activity.

The most common debris discovered after the disaster took place were those from buildings and construction sites. The most common forms of the construction materials whose sample report were collected were reinforced concrete structure and the hollow bricks. A collection of unbroken hollowed brinks for reuse took place and the inhabitants took the initiative to collect reinforcing bars as scrap irons.

There is really an urge for the Haiti mission crew to make sure that disasters of high magnitude such as earthquakes do not take place and if they do, they do not cause anyone problems. Of course, this is a difficult plan to realize. Even then, there is need to do at least what is possible within human ability to prevent such disasters from taking place because they lead to negative results.
