Therapy Techniques Used In Family Counseling Ontario

By David Harris

Family counselling which can also be known to as personal treatment is a branch of psychotherapy whose main focus is on family and couples in intimate relationships. Family counseling ontario helps nature to change and welcomes development as it attempts to create an open system where interactions between personal members are of a healthy nature as a result of good psychological health.

Study of psychology and the advancements that have come with this ancient field have made personal counselling or therapy possible in this modern age due to the fact currently everyone wants to go through therapy. The meaning of private has been restructured and broadened. Therapy has occupied a central position in mental health today and it has been understood that healthy families bear and bring up healthy individuals. Various techniques are being applied.

Family counselling helps families resolve ongoing or long-term conflicts that have been plaguing them. Some of many conflicts in families remain unsolved due to arrogance and pride which hinders common grounds being set where a solution can be found. With therapy where a mediator is present, all sides are able to air their views and hence a neutral solution is found and a conflict is solved.

Attachment theory of John Bowlby, Mary Ainsworth and Douglas Haldane states that individuals are most likely or rather are shaped by the personal experiences with their caregivers of the first 3 years. It employs psychoanalysis play therapy which may include leaving a baby in a house alone as their parental bond is monitored. It is also a foundation for Objects Relations Theory.

There is the Milan systemic personal therapy founded by several scientist which looks at practical attempts to establish therapeutic techniques that disrupt systemic patterns of control and games among personal members by challenging the personal beliefs and attempting to rework personal psychical assumptions. They have been tempted and proved to work in some extent.

Another used model is the Cognitive-behavioral personal therapy whose theorists are John Gottman, Albert Ellis and Albert Bandura which states that problems are a result of conditioning by the operant that reinforces negative behaviours within the personal social exchanges thus giving birth to unwanted traits. This then becomes the root of irrational beliefs and a faulty personal schema.

There is the Trans-generational counselling therapy technique and works on examining integration between the private members, the conflict levels and also breaks down the toxic private belief systems that form the base for the destructive behaviours. It is most effective when two generations are living together and it is used hand in hand with the Milan Therapy technique.

It should be known that private therapy is a very short-term endeavour that only requires five to twenty sessions and demands nothing more than the families cooperation. This practice can use any of the above-mentioned techniques which are simple. There is also zero shame when it comes to seeking help as the results achieved from therapy saves people a lot of future pain and failures.
