The Beliefs Of A Spiritual Salvation Path

By Donald Wood

When it comes to belief in a higher power or powers, there are many different belief systems. In addition, there are those who are Agnostic and Atheist. Agnostics believe in a higher power though are uncertain as to the nature of a specific deity or belief system. Whereas, Atheists have no belief in a supreme deity or specific Spiritual Salvation Path.

For most Christians, there is only one way to eternal life and the gates of heaven. For most, this is through acceptance of Christ, as personal Lord and Savior through a specific prayer one must recite at the altar of an associated church, often followed by baptism. Whereas, others believe that Christ died for all and that everyone has been forgiven of sins committed in this lifetime.

Those subscribing to the Christian faith also believe Christ was born the son of a virgin, died to save the world from sin, then returned to the right hand side of the father. Then, at some point apparently according to the Bible, when man thinks not, Jesus will return to earth to take those whom have accepted the Lord and Savior home.

Still, for those who believe in a specific route to eternity, most stand strong in the beliefs as taught by the Christian faith. Part and parcel to this faith is also the belief in Satan or the devil and that the entity can tempt one to sin against God. After which, one must ask forgiveness and be cleansed of such sin. Although, unlike the Catholic sect of the faith, Baptists, Episcopalians, Methodists and others have a direct relationship with God and ask forgiveness through prayer rather than repenting to a priest.

Whereas, those whom often claim to be Spiritual though not religious often subscribe to a number of alternative belief systems. While there may still be grievances against others for some lifestyle choices, most often bigotry, discrimination and homophobia are absent. It should be noted, that there are some sects of the Christian faith which are more accepting of difference than others.

The bigotry, hatred and homophobia that has spread across the land in the name of religion is enough to make anyone turn away from religion. Although, there are also those whom would like to still have a religious and spiritual life. As such, whether having changed to, or having built a welcoming congregation from scratch, there are now a number of churches which welcome those living a LGBTQ lifestyle. Although, while this is the case, not all clergy within the organization will perform gay marriages or other services associated with those particular individuals.

In most cases, those attending Southern Baptist churches are the most devout. In addition, these are often the individuals who preach that certain members of society are going to hell. In large part, pastors in these churches have also been known to denounce other religions as part of ongoing sermons.

Individuals involved in any form of alternative lifestyle or religious belief may want consider seeking out a true welcoming congregation. For example, there are many churches within the Unitarian Universalist organization that are very open and welcoming to both LGTBQ and pagans. In fact, there is actually a CUUPS group at some Unitarian Universalist churches, CUUPS standing for Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans.
