Volunteering In The Lutheran Church's Sunday School

By Kristen Baird

Molded by Christian doctrines and governed by faith, it surely feels wonderful being guided by the light of Jesus. And though many are enlightened by His supernatural existence, others simply consider Him as a myth with whom people draw strength in times of trouble. Questions about His grace and divinity have been everywhere but what can be there to ask knowing His love for everyone has been manifested since day one? It is quite saddening, though, that more and more individuals today have become less and less religious.

Christianity is the biggest religion so far and one of the oldest denominations therein is Protestantism. Being part of the biggest discipleship is something that brings genuine euphoria to people who have been ruled by Christian doctrines although some of the critical values of their religion have been subtly disregarded over the years especially by the new generation. Nonetheless, church leaders have been keen on reviving the lost values through implementing programs with which the Lutheran church Wilmington has been actively involved.

Lutheranism was started by the late Martin Luther, a friar in the Order of the Augustinian Recollects who later on referred to as the Father of the Reformation. The principles of Lutheranism are basically extracted from the beliefs and practices of the Roman Catholic Church. Baptism is a huge part of this religious movement which is why believing adults and infants are required to be baptized.

Anyway, for individuals who wish to help retain the values of Jesus through gathering the lost flock, it would be a wise idea to become teachers in Sunday schools. Besides, these are so much easier than any regular schools. Volunteer teachers do not need to prepare daily quizzes for the students nor send them to school educational trips where lessons are better explained.

Catechism is fun. Not only will students be introduced to divinity of God, they can also make plenty of friends from the church. And what can be more interesting than knowing not only the religious aspects of life but also how to make it more exciting through the people around?

There are countless churches out there with a great need for volunteers. The thing is, interested individuals might have to serve longer hours whenever necessary. Volunteers, however, are going to be asked about their preferred time before agreeing to the volunteer work.

Initial background check will be done upon application but aspirants need not worry. If they have nothing to hide, nothing can surely hinder them from being part of it. This, however, requires applicants to become church members. If not, this does not necessarily stops them volunteering.

Being a volunteer does not mean one has to be entirely tied up with all religious activities. It is important to know that volunteers are there to serve the community rather than the mendicants raise money for themselves or the group. Of course, they can if they want to.

There is a huge difference between volunteering to teach and to be on a mission. For those interested in the Sunday school, they do not need to be sent somewhere unless they ask for it. And besides, they cannot be anywhere without the approval of the entire ministry as well.
