Rhinestone Tiaras Of Exceptional Quality

By Agnes Dickson

One's choice of accessory can have a major impact on the overall look of their outfit. Pairing a simple dress with the proper earrings, bracelet, necklace or other sparkly piece can create a variety of looks from fun and flirty to classic and demure. Some timeless options of this sort are rhinestone tiaras, headbands, chokers and treasured brooches.

Some of the more popular choices in jewelry materials are silver, gold, diamonds, sapphires, emeralds and rubies. The metals are precious and the stones are among the most treasured for their vivid colors and incredible sparkle. The biggest drawback to these options, however, is that they can be quite expensive for the average person's budget.

An affordable substitute for the pure metals is to choose plating, and there are several different types of artificial gems available, though their quality will vary greatly. The four most commonly used replacement mediums are acrylic plastic, gum paste, colored glass and lead crystal. Each of these options will have characteristics that will affect color, clarity and shine.

Imitation gems are called rhinestones and they come in all shapes, sizes and colors and their quality varies with the materials from which they are made. Those of lower grade simply look like colored stones and are featured in play jewelry because they are quite inexpensive. Some at the highest level are so convincingly accurate, that it may take an expert to verify they are not true jewels.

Those on the lower end of the spectrum are mostly made from paste and plastic. These are very inexpensive materials which makes them great for children's accessories and general costuming needs. Because neither material is refractive, the downside is that artificial gems at this level do not have any real sparkle, though the colors may be quite vibrant.

Those in the mid range are mostly constructed using glass as their base product. Color works well in this medium which produces gems with rich jewel tones that can produce quite a nice sparkle when paired with a proper cut and a metal or foil backing. These are the types that are often used for crafting projects and for regular everyday accessories like bracelets, charms, earrings and hair pins.

The more expensive items are such because their clarity and quality are rather exceptional in the field of fabricated gems. Constructed from genuine lead crystal, they can be so much like real diamonds, emeralds and other stones that even experts have known to be confused at times. Manufactured primarily by the Swarovski company, their uncanny likeness to the genuine articles have made this type the most costly but still they are affordable for most budgets.

There are a great number of fabricated gemstone options, in a wide range of quality and characteristics options, to fill any taste, need or budget. So many accessorizing items are made with these products including purses, bangles, hair clips, pendants, jewelery and clothing. Opting to use these artificial stones allows a person the opportunity to still have their desired wow factor without having to deal with the price and everything else that accompanies purchasing genuine jewels.
