If you suffer with acne-prone skin, then you have probably tried everything to rid yourself of the inflamed bumps and clogged pores. It can be a real downer when one quick fix after another fails. The good news is, there are some steps you can take to finally rid yourself of acne and get the clear skin you dream of.

Buying an oil-free, dermatologist-approved moisturizer is essential for reducing acne. With the right oil-free moisturizer you can experience smooth skin without the side effect of additional acne. If you do not use an oil-free moisturizer, there is a much greater chance your pores will get clogged and, thus, lead to a breakout of acne.

Make a mask of egg whites. Egg whites have been known to prevent acne in some instances. Try making a facial mask out of egg whites. Leave it on for fifteen to twenty minutes before washing it off. Alternatively, you can apply egg whites directly to pimples. This will often greatly reduce redness and swelling.

If you are using an acne product that is high in salicylic acid content, it is important to remember the strong effect that this can have on your skin. Always remember to use only the directed amount, as excessive use can inflame your skin and cause even more breakouts. If you are noticing excess peeling or irritation, reduce your use to every other day, instead of daily or semi-daily.

To help clear acne, you should make sure to wash your face at least two times a day. This removes the oils and sweat that has been building up on your face. You may want to use some sort of facial wash or cleanser to help in scrubbing and removing these oils.

To help keep acne under control, change your pillowcase every day. Your pillowcase picks up dirt and oils from your hair, and then your face is in contact with all of that grime for hours a night. Buy some extra pillowcases to have on hand so don't have to wash them every day.

If you are a bodybuilder, understand that steroids can contribute a great deal to the formation of acne. Steroids increase the hormones in your body, and can disrupt your antioxidants internally. If you can avoid it, try to eliminate steroids from your regimen to keep unpleasant acne off of your face.

If you are using medicated creams or gels to fight acne, don't forget to use a moisturizer regularly. Most acne medications contain drying chemicals and alcohol. These drying formulations can lead your skin to overproduce oil, which can then lead to further and more aggressive breakouts. Make sure to work a moisturizer into your skin care regime to keep your skin's oil production balanced.

Everybody gets pimples, but the worst thing to do is pop them. Popping zits can leave scarring, redness, or cause swelling. When you pop a pimple, you are just pushing the infection back into the skin, and really making it a lot worse. Be kind to your skin and no matter how embarrassing it may be, don't pop your pimples.

As recognized earlier, acne can range from mild occasional small blemishes to large, angry, pustules which take days to clear up and can leave disfiguring, deep pits in the skin. By adopting strategies from this article, you can hope to clear up the milder cases and consult a doctor for more serious ones.
