The Goal Of Natural Shamanism And Spirituality

By Mary Roberts

When it comes to spirituality, there are often many different choices and viewpoints. While some have found practices such as meditation and yoga beneficial, there are others whom enjoy the benefits of Natural Shamanism. For, as with other paths, while there are many different aspects, Shamanism is born out of nature.

Definitions of shamanism often refer to the practice as a life path or healing tradition. The motivation of the practice being to build a stronger connection between people and nature. The term, Shaman, was provided by Anthropologists and originally referenced leaders of ceremonial and spiritual rituals of a Siberian tribe. As such, there are many different aspects of the practice which are based on these ancient rituals.

Once others started using the term, it became clear that the practice had cross-cultural connections. As such, the word and practice became popular in different areas of the world. While the ancient practice is still active in many indigenous tribes, there is a newer form which has taken hold in the Western world.

Once the new form took hold, shamanism became more popularized in relation to New Age and Pagan spirituality. After which, it became more difficult to differentiate between the two practices. In most cases, Shamanism refers to the ancient practice. Whereas, those practicing in New Age circles often refer to the practice as esoteric shamanism.

There are some people whom consider the basics of the practice as being the spiritual and universal wisdom of early tribes. While this is the case, there are others whom disagree. For, it has been discovered and proved that different indigenous tribes have varying beliefs. As such, while there may be similarities in tradition when it comes to ancient shamanistic rituals, there are also differences.

Ancient shamans often believe that only the earliest Shamans and descendants have healing powers. For, it is believed that the ability and practice with regards to healing has been handed down through generations. Whereas, while there can be present day shamans, most indigenous tribes believe only those descended from ancient shamans have such power. In either case, it is often good to do a background check before providing payment to anyone whom claims to have cleansing or healing powers, a shaman or otherwise.

In fact, true shamanistic healers living in this day and age often provide services on a free or donation basis. For, these healers provide services to individuals while also focusing on healing various dysfunctions in a community. In this sense, community refers to animals, plants, planet, people, sea life, wild life and all of life as a whole. In all cases, it requires a commitment to daily spiritual practices in this area to achieve these goals.

The goal of the practice is to create balance, harmony and well being. Living a shamanistic lifestyle on a daily basis allows practitioners to focus on different areas which need healing. While some practitioners travel to spiritual centers as a means of cleansing and enhancing body, mind and soul, doing so is not a requirement. Rather, focusing on balance, harmony and overall well being of community and planet are the most important aspects when it comes to maintaining a daily practice.
