There are several reasons why the people of Kentucky request for their marriage certificate. It is used by researchers who conduct genealogy. They use the document as reference in updating the information on the family tree. Another use of this document is for government transactions. Some requests in the government would require individuals to secure a copy of a marriage certificate, without it the request may be denied. The information that can be found on the document is used to validate the identity and the status of an individual especially if the request involves the couple. Checking the marital status is mostly done by single individuals and employers. They do this to make sure that the person they are dating is really single. Employers would verify the marital status of their people in order to process the benefits they offer to their employees.

Just like any other marriage certificate, a Kentucky marriage certificate would contain details about the marriage of a couple. This includes the complete names of the husband and the wife as well as when and where they got married. Additional information that can be found on the document includes the names of the parents and the people who were witnesses to the event.

Although this document is considered as a public document, access to it is still limited. This means that the only the couple and their immediate families are given access to the said file. A special request has to be filed by those who need to obtain a copy of the marriage certificate of other individuals. A $6 processing fee is needed in order to proceed with the retrieval process. It is also important that the one who requested for the document can provide the basic information about the file being requested. This can be the names of the bride and the groom as well as the date and the place where the marriage occurred. The personal information of the requesting individual is also needed. By providing all of the needed information, the search can be simplified and hastened.
