Basic Concepts About Biblical Apologetics

By Frances Clark

Christian Apologetics is a theological branch which tends to defend Christianity from oppositions. There exist numerous objections about the existence of God and the whole concept of Christianity bringing along different debates about this. As a Christian, it is essential to embrace the concept of apologetics to have a strong ground to argue with individuals resisting the existence of your religion. The following are basic thoughts about Biblical apologetics.

First, understand the origin of this aspect. Faith defenders have been existing since the second century. It started with opposition brought along by Greek Philosophers against the rising Christianity. Some of the aspects that original apologetics argued against was the assumption that Christians are immoral, atheists against the Greek gods, and acted as cannibals. Also, they tend to help them understand that faith has been existing since the Old Testament.

The purpose of apologetics. There are three basic purposes of faith defense. Most Christians agree that one should not construct arguments about Christianity. Instead, they should refuse any accusation. However, it is vital to have this to show variation between atheism and religion. The arguments are supposed to bring the truth about faith which is known as vindication, refuting accusation which is regarded as defense and refuting opposition belief which is known as an offense.

The relationship between apologetics and evangelism. Basically, evangelism is the spread of the word of God. Faith defense is considered as a pre-evangelism which remove the opposition nature of a non-believer to prepare viable grounds to preach the gospel. Most non-believers have an intellectual objection against the concept of Christianity hence the need to bring in faith-based defense which is based on their intellectual arguments to be on the same level.

The approach of faith defense through epistemologies. There are three aspects that are involved in the approach. They include basing your argument purely through the word of God, appraisal of other belief systems to affirm the existence of a supreme being who is God, and through personal experiences considered as a mystic. This can be simplified into basic aspects that God is imminent and transcendence and understanding that sin has separated us from Him.

The argument approach methods. The process has five different aspects that can be used. These aspects include the reformed epistemology, cumulative cases, evident process, classical, and the proposition process. There are detailed aspects that one needs to comprehend about. Therefore, you need to acknowledge them to become effective.

Using the bible in defense. The bible is the word of God and forms the basis of Christianity. Therefore, failing to read and comprehend its word nullify the basic argument that Christianity is vague. Therefore, people who fail to argue without making reference to the bible are not considered to be relevant. On the other hand, it argues that faith defenders should practically live according to its teaching and preach according to the scriptures.

Arguments based outside of the Bible. Logic thinking about God and His existence should be disregarded when one wants to base on logic thinking. To start with, one cannot comprehend the truth about God using natural humanity. Also, one without faith cannot understand or talk anything about God and the basis of atheism is against God which they are expected to believe to be non-existence.
