No matter how many things you have to move, or how much experience you have, relocating your whole home can be difficult and overwhelming. The more things you have to move adds to the stress, and the bonds you made with the place are hard to break. You can follow some of these simple steps to try to reduce the stress of the new move.
Don't Be a Procrastinator
One thing that adds large amounts of stress to moving is procrastination. For several people, moving can seem like such a daunting task that it is hard to know where to begin. But one of the best things you can do is start early. This means planning and organizing and for most it means getting rid of excess before packing. Also, starting early prevents you from ending up with too little time to pack. We all hate unpacking those boxes that are disorganized and packed in a haste. They are filled with knick knacks and random things that you wish you threw out before carrying up two flights of stairs. Not everything you own is going to have a place in your new home. If you can avoid procrastinating before your move you will give yourself time to get rid of things you will no longer need and keep your packing organized.
Research Your City
Sometimes in-city moves can be easier then out of state moves. It is still difficult to move somewhere that you have heard nothing about, and don't know how you might fit in. At this point it would be a good idea to do some research; maybe take a look at how the weather might be different and might change around as you live there. Various states have erratic weather changes, which might mean always have a change of lighter or warmer clothes in the car. It would also help you if you had the opportunity to visit the area where you might be moving, whether you want to get to know the shopping scene, or just be there to see how you would fit in. Some would also suggest to call nearby moving companies to get their advice on when the vest time to come would be.
Pack A Bag
Many people use moving trucks that will take a few days to get to the new moving location. If this is the case, it is really important to pack a bag with a few day's worth of clothes and underwear so that you don't have to be miserable waiting for your clean, packed clothes to come in. It is a horrible thing to realize that you are out of clothes at the time that the moving truck is days away.
Even though moving is still difficult, this can give you a better opportunity to have a pleasant experience overall.
