How Can I Strengthen My Spiritual Life Journey

By Ericka Marsh

A strong spiritual life is very fulfilling. It takes time and effort to realize this strength. The first step is a declaration that, I want to take charge of my spiritual life journey. Attaining this strength will require you to undertake several things.

Identify your foundation- this means making a decision to follow a particular spirituality. The spirituality or principles in many cases are based on a religious belief. Further, within different religions, there are opportunities to adapt a particular lifestyle. The options include meditative, charity, evangelical, intellectual, etc. The principles of the religious or spiritual body you join will guide you through the journey.

Be a member of a community- participating in communities is encouraging and reinforces your belief. The experiences shared on daily life will strengthen you in spirit, personal and social life. It also is a chance to learn from those who understand the spirituality better and also share your understanding or knowledge with those who join behind you.

Mentor- having a mentor in matters of faith provides an upper hand since most of them have gone through the experience of faith. Their experience and understanding of the journey of faith will strengthen your pursuit of a fulfilling life. They help you during major decision making intervals and will redirect you in case you get lost. Find a person who encourages you to be better and aim higher spiritually.

Read more- curiosity leads to better understanding and a firm belief. By reading books and other spiritually oriented materials, you will build a strong foundation. Look for books that teach the basics of your spirituality or community engagement. They give you different perspectives on how your faith can remain strong. There are books on contemporary issues in spirituality. They help you understand your spirituality despite the changes taking place in the world.

Listen- audio materials and live lectures or sermons by intellectuals and religious leaders are incredible resources. Some are broadcast over the internet, on TVs, radios or distributed through DVDs and other storage platforms. The insight given on such platforms is encouraging. Choose your materials well to avoid confusion.

Meditate- this is an opportunity to reflect on the pillars of your faith. It is a quiet moment to understand what you believe in and how it can be applied in your life. Find a quiet place and, if necessary, enlist the assistance of a meditation guide. There are hymns and melodies to assist in meditation.

Charity work- this is voluntary work aimed at assisting the needy in your community. Participating in such endeavors keeps you in touch with your immediate community. It also helps you appreciate the things you already have and therefore be grateful.

Attend pilgrimages- living in spirit introduces you to a lot of people and places. Making a journey to a holy site or attending an event by a spiritual leader enhances your spirit. It provides a practical view of the spiritual reality. It changes what you have always read and heard into real things. A pilgrimage will transform your belief.
