Why More Expats Are Working In Canada

By Lisa Ellis

Over the years, more and more expats have been drawn to Canada. There are a huge number of advantages to working in Canada. The moment one mentions this, people are often put off by the weather, of course. However, one only really feels this as you venture outside to your car or to the bus.

The average person here will have a car. There is central heating just about everywhere. You will immediately take off all of your layers as you enter the office. Employees are treated well in terms of comfort. Canadians are stylish and this can be seen in their offices and business environments as well.

Of course, there are cities, such as London and the surrounding areas as well as some of the European countries. But, here too these are the areas where many expats go to. Europe is very expensive. You have to look for accommodation and you will find that you have to get around from one point to another, and this costs money as well.

You will earn more points based on the type of work you do, the experience you have and how specialized you are. You will also earn points based on whether you are single or not and whether you have children. Of course, this has become less of a problem, especially when the authorities can see that you are going to be an asset to them.

A person moving to Canada because they feel that this is a good choice in terms of safety, opportunities and happiness will want to present themselves well in terms of their skills and their education. It is the education which matters a lot more than other countries which one applies to most of the time. This can include the United States and the United Kingdom, for example.

However, this is a first world country. You will find that both the home and the office is equipped with the required heating which makes you think you are in a tropical area. Of course, just like with any other type of application process, one needs to find the most suitable visa. Planning is required. You may need up to a year in advance to prepare for something like this. It is an emotional adjustment as well. This is something to bear in mind.

Of course, the one major drawback would be the language. French is spoken in some parts of the country. This is something worth researching more about. It can be worthwhile learning even if you are not based in the French parts. There may be times when you have to go on business or you come into contact with a client. One must be aware that Canadians are hard workers. You won't see a lot of people taking long lunch breaks.

Canada is always looking for people who are educated and who have experience. However, having years and years of experience is not a must. There is a large opening for jobs for graduates. Most graduates who complete their studies in Canada find that they are able to be placed in a job of their choice fairly quickly. There are certain positions which the authorities will be looking out for. For example, people who are skilled, technically will usually be considered very quickly. This can include video gamer developers as well.
